It all started in 1880 when...

Charles Fredrick Howlett moved to Henrietta, NY and began farming on 13 acres with 2 milk cows. Charles's son, Jasper, and grandsons, Charles and Eugene, continued the farming tradition in Monroe County. In 1980, after losing his brother to a farming accident, Eugene moved the focus to specialty crops and vegetables to fend off the failing farm economy. In the late 1980’s, Eugene’s son, Bruce, purchased land in Livingston County, built a rail spur and grain facility, and drove the farm’s expansion through the 90’s with high-returns on vegetables and rapidly improving row crop yields.

After a transition to cash crops, Howlett Farms vertically integrated through the supply chain to to expand beyond grain production into trucking, grain handling and marketing, and feed manufacturing. In Avon they built their main office and a new, state-of-the-art grain facility. Here, they also expanded their transportation fleet.

In 2023, Howlett Farms operates multiple grain handling facilities and distributes finished feed from their Geneva Feed Mill and Batavia and Leroy Grinding Facilities. Working with over 65 grain processors, from feed mills and flour mills to ethanol plants and exporters, Howlett Farms is able to offer competitive pricing and options for farmers across the Northeast, no matter the market environment. Bruce and his son, Michael, currently work with producers across the Northeast to provide a reliable, accessible and efficient marketplace for farmers to sell their products.

Howlett Farms strives to connect the supply of grains from producers to meet the steady needs of their end-use customers. Every day, the Team at Howlett Farms works to strengthen their customers, grow their company and advance the agricultural community.

Howlett Farms is honored to receive the 2021 Next Generation Farmer Award from the NYS Agricultural Society!

We are grateful to be named the 2019 Livingston County Farm of the Year!
